| Usually seen as drying and browning of the leaf edges, although more severe symptoms including the death of entire leaves. Can develop on leaves, especially new, young growth, if hot, windy conditions occur during a period of active growth when the roots are not able to supply enough water to replace that being used by the leaves.
Leaf scorch can also result from root disturbance by construction, soil compaction, trenching or root diseases. |
Optimize the plant's root growth and health through proper watering, mulching and fertilizing.
Apply at least one inch of water per week during periods of drought. Make applications slowly, and deeply enough that the top 10-12 inches of soil are moistened.
Apply organic mulch to susceptible trees to help maintain soil moisture and reduce competition with surrounding grass for water and nutrients.
Do not grow shade plants or understory trees and shrubs in hot, sunny, windy locations. |
